Mugello Circuit, Monday, 18 February 2002
Weather: Foggy, then damp then dry and cool
Temperature: Track 18°; Air 11°
Distance: 22 laps - 115.50 kilometres
Track Length: 5.25 kilometres

Team SAUBER PETRONAS Team has completed today the third of a three-day test in Mugello (Italy) with the new SAUBER PETRONAS C21. Felipe Massa completed 22 laps and his quickest lap was 1m26.046s. He ended his testing with an accident on his 23rd lap but he was unharmed. The car will be now repaired in Hinwil prior to his shipment to Australia.

Willy Rampf (Technical Director): "In the morning, we lost quite a long time waiting for the track to open as it was quite foggy to start and visibility was very poor. The track was still wet after heavy rains overnight. In the morning, Felipe tried wet and dry-weather tyres. He was also able to complete a dry-run to double-check all of the systems of the car. We also were able to complete a number of refuelling tests. Unfortunately, Felipe's work was interrupted when he had an accident on the second run this afternoon. He lost the car in turn 11 and hit the tyre barrier sideways. He was unhurt of course, but Team Sauber Petronas decided to end the test prematurely as the damage to the car was too great to rebuild it on-site in a very short period of time. Overall, this test confirms our finding from all of our winter testing, that the Sauber Petronas C21 has shown itself to be reliable and very competitive.

Felipe Massa: "I am disappointed to have crashed the car. But it was extremely good experience to do the refuelling stops and this will stand me in good stead, ready for my first Grand Prix in Melbourne."
