Schumacher anxious to get going in Melbourne

The third and, for the moment, the last of the flyaway races at the start of the season will be this coming weekend's Australian Grand Prix and Michael Schumacher is aiming for a better result in Melbourne than he achieved last year. In 2005 the German had to retire after a clash between his Ferrari and the Williams of Nick Heidfeld.

Schumacher started this season with a podium finish with second in Bahrain but was hampered by an engine penalty in Malaysia and had to start from the midfield. He finished in sixth, one place behind teammate Felipe Massa, and hopes find better form in Melbourne.
"The important thing is that there will be no problems adapting to the climate and time change this time round," said Schumacher, who continued training while on holiday in Australia in the run up to the race.
"In fact, we have adapted gradually, first in Bahrain, then Malaysia and now in Australia. So, we will go into the next round in fine form and, to be totally honest, I cannot wait."
"Although the Malaysian race did not go as we would have liked, the start of the season, on the whole, has been very pleasing. I would like to do well in Melbourne. I have always liked this race and things have always gone well for us. I am convinced that the result will be better than last year."
"We will try to pick up from the good form shown in the first race of the season and, I think, it is realistic to say that we can obtain a result midway between that of Bahrain and that in Malaysia. Obviously, we will be doing all we can to go as far as possible."
After two races Schumacher is joint second with Honda's Jenson Button in the drivers' standings behind the leader, Renault's current world champion Fernando Alonso. Ferrari is also joint second, with McLaren, behind Renault in the constructors' standings.
Naturally, Schumacher is impatient to be back on track and try and catch the leaders. "I am anxious to get going," he commented. "Maybe this is because being on holiday means detaching completely and brings withdrawal symptoms. Now I want to get back to the fight."
