Hockenheim was never one of the best circuits for Michael Schumacher and his decisive win at the German Grand Prix was important to him. The Ferrari reigning champion made amends for his lowly seventh place in 2003 when he led from pole to flag last weekend, aside from the obligatory pit stop shuffles. At his home event, the race couldn't have been better.

"I never hid how important victory was for me at Hockenheim and I am really pleased that we managed to fulfil our potential," said Schumacher "When you are able to make a lot of people happy, it gives you indescribable joy. Over the final laps, I could hear the loud cheers; it was simply fantastic."
Formula One is now in the three-week summer break and testing is banned until after Hungary at the end of August. But for Ferrari, and the other teams, work will still go on in other ways.
"There are lots of ways in which we can continue working, if not on the track then in the wind tunnel or the test benches," Schumacher commented. "During the break in testing, those that normally work on the track switch to these areas. In fact, work has already begun in the factory on next year's car."
The German has won 11 out of 12 races so far this season so it's hardly surprising that he would be quite happy to carry on without a break. But the team needs some time off and Schumacher is well aware of that; even he could do with a little relaxation.
"In my view, we could do away with this break," he said. "Everything is going so well and so we could go on. However, for the engineers and the mechanics the summer break is a blessing as they gain the most from the pause. They have, in fact, worked so hard over the past few weeks that their families have often missed out. Our wins are the compensation, but a rest is needed to recharge our batteries."
"For us drivers it's no bad thing either; Ferrari is good at getting the work-rest balance just right. The team, through an intelligent series of tests, ensure that we don't overdo things physically or morally. In all sincerity, I am pleased to now have a couple of days of peace and quiet with Corinna and the kids."
