Hamilton was able to split the Ferrari's but couldn't beat Leclerc to pole - and you do wonder if he could have done with a perfect lap. Spent the first stint stuck behind Leclerc but ended up running long in a futile attempt to make something happen, which relegated him from second to fourth.

Verdict: Did what he could with the package at his disposal and battled to extract pace from ageing rubber, but the race situation just went against him.
