Michael wins, Sauber and Arrows in points

Michael Schumacher's domination of Formula 1 continued in Spain with the reigning world champion taking his 3rd consecutive win and his 4th out of five races. The Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver led from the start in a race that saw him out on his own, his Bridgestone tyres eventually carrying him to the end more than 35 seconds in front. But it was also a day of celebration for Bridgestone teams Sauber Petronas and OrangeArrows. Nick Heidfeld and Felipe Massa both finished in the points with a 4th and 5th place while OrangeArrows collected their first point of the season thanks to Heinz-Harald Frentzen finishing 6th. Jacques Villeneuve was 7th.

Bridgestone Results:

1st Michael Schumacher; 4th Nick Heidfeld; 5th Felipe Massa; 6th Heinz-Harald Frentzen; 7th Jacques Villeneuve; DNF Olivier Panis; Enrique Bernoldi; Takuma Sato; Giancarlo Fisichella; Rubens Barrichello.

Ross Brawn - Technical Director - Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro

"Michael drove a faultless race. After a very good start he just controlled his pace for the rest of the race to minimise the stress on the car. Obviously Rubens being unable to start because of what seems to have been a transmission failure is very disappointing because we have lost a potential six points. Tyres are so important and Bridgestone did a fantastic job here which anyone can see from the finishing order. I believe they can do an equally good job for Austria, so with a good car I hope we can be as competitive there as we have been here."

Willy Rampf - Technical Director - Sauber Petronas

"We are very happy. The tyre performance has been very good all weekend which helped us push and achieve this result. We changed our strategy for Nick so we could try and get him ahead in the second pit-stop and Felipe drove a very clever race."

Mike Coughlan - Technical Director - OrangeArrows

"The car was really good. We made a mistake in the pit-stop and lost a place otherwise I'm sure we could even have been 5th. We must thank Bridgestone for the exceptional tyres."

Hisao Suganuma - Technical Manager - Bridgestone Motorsport

"A great day for us with one of our cars winning the race and three more in the points. Congratulations to Michael on a perfect drive, but I was also delighted to see today that a number of our drivers were able to push and be competitive. We saw some great battles further down the field which ended in points for Sauber Petronas and OrangeArrows and I would like to think that was partly due to our tyres. However, today's result is already history and tomorrow we will be working on the next race and beyond."
