The weather remained dry for Saturday's second and final free practice, several drivers taking to the track in the opening minutes. Heinz-Harald Frentzen finally got going after sitting out the first session with engine problems on his Arrows. Ralf Schumacher clocked the first fastest time, a 1:36.689, just faster than Rubens Barrichello's top time in the previous practice. Arrows were active early on with both Frentzen and Enrique Bernoldi in the top ten.

Sauber's Nick Heidfeld had an early trip into the gravel but managed to get back on track and Renault's Jarno Trulli spun, also keeping it in hand. Both Renaults were in the top ten in the opening ten minutes, the other Sauber of Felipe Massa just behind Trulli. Jaguar, Minardi and Toyota loitered at the back of the field with BAR in front, not a particularly good weekend for any of them so far, although Toyota's Mika Salo showed quite well in Friday's second practice.

Barrichello was on a flyer until he got a bit too carried away and spun but he recovered well. Juan Pablo Montoya clocked a 1:36.556 to take top of the times about half way through and Pedro de la Rosa suddenly jumped up to eighth -- he's had a funny few practices, being way down the times then making a huge leap into the top ten. Michael Schumacher posted fifth fastest while Williams took over the 1-2 positions, Coulthard in third, the Michelin runners seeming to have the advantage. Arrows consistently hovered around the top ten and Jordan were quiet but also lapping in or around the top twelve.

Raikkonen moved up to second for McLaren while team mate Coulthard took a high speed spin and beached it in the gravel, ending his session. The yellow flags came it but it was a fairly quiet part of the practice so no-one was held up. Heidfeld made it into the top ten as Ralf Schumacher went out on brand new tyres, in the last ten minutes teams started running in qualifying trim. After a so-far good session Frentzen retired to the pits with his car on fire, swiftly doused by mechanics. Jordan's Takuma Sato had a wobbly moment, losing the rear at approx 200kmph; he took to the grass but managed to recover.

In the last five minutes there was a lot activity; Button into seventh and both Saubers in the top ten, Salo improving to tenth for Toyota. BAR remained poor at the tail end of the field while Williams stayed fastest with Montoya, Raikkonen taking second fastest from Ralf Schumacher at the very end. Final classification: Montoya, 1:36.556, Raikkonen, R. Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, M. Schumacher.
