Jarno Trulli has responded to the critics who say he is a good qualifier but a bad racer by claiming their opinion is unprofessional. The Renault driver put in some solid performances last year that helped shrug off the unfortunate reputation he gained, but he was let down many times by the car. However, at Monza he finished fourth after starting at the back of the grid, a result that belied his supposed poor racing ability.

Asked if the 'good qualifier, bad racer' label annoyed him, Trulli told ITV-F1: "Yes, especially because it happened because I can't finish races! I've done so many good races where with ten laps to go the engine blows up and I'm out. I think these, let's say questions, come from people who don't really look at Formula 1 they just think they know -- they are very unprofessional."

"But if you watch a race you see the way they go. Okay, you don't finish but it's not up to the driver to save the engine if people from the pits ask you to push. I'm not really concerned about it. I will keep doing my job, the team knows exactly my potential and I've shown several times how good I am in the races. It's just up to the car to give me a reliable race."

Trulli ended last season eighth in the Driver's Championship with nine points, one place behind then-team mate Jenson Button. The Italian had four finishes in the points but nine retirements -- one accident and one spin off, the rest being car problems -- which leaves only four races in which he didn't achieve a top six place.

"I really would like to finish more races than last year," he said. "Last year I finished very few races and I had problems in most of them. I had nine retirements, it was a nightmare! The reliability was really not very good. So for me, I want to finish more races as for me that will mean more points."
