Vettel vents fury after Kvyat double hit

Sebastian Vettel vented his fury over team radio after a double clash with Daniil Kvyat put him out of the Russian Grand Prix on the opening lap.

Just a fortnight after Vettel had accused his rival of driving like a 'torpedo' at the Chinese Grand Prix, Vettel was enraged after he was hit twice by him at Sochi.

Kvyat ran in to the back of him at Turn 2 and then as the pair recovered they clashed again at Turn 3 – which pitched Vettel in to a spin and out of the race.

Venting his immediate anger over the radio, Vettel said: “I'm out. Crash. Somebody hit me in the f**king rear in Turn 2, then someone hit me in the f**king rear again in Turn 3.

"Honestly. What the f**k are we doing here?”

Having watched footage of the incident prior to speaking to the media, Vettel had calmed down – but had no doubts he was an innocent party.

“It was fairly clear [what happened] – I just saw the footage,” he said. “I got a bit hit to spin in Turn 2 and I got a huge hit which turned me around at Turn 3, and I couldn't avoid hitting the barriers.”

He added: “In the end these things happen but it is harsh. In the end the race is long. You can make progress in the first lap but you can also end your race, which for me was the case there.

"It was not my fault. There was nothing I could do different.

“I don't dislike him [Kvyat], I think he made a mistake two weeks ago, he did a mistake today. It is fairly obvious but it doesn't help me out because I am not in the race.”

When asked if he intended to speak to Kvyat, Vettel said: “I think there is nothing I could have done different. If anybody needs to talk to somebody it is him.”

Kvyat was given a 10-second stop/go penalty for his actions in clashing with Vettel, who was later spotted speaking to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner on the pitwall during the race.
