Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel won the British GP after overtaking Mercedes rival Valtteri Bottas five laps from the chequered flag.

Ferrari elected to pit Vettel under the second safety and lost track position to Bottas, but fresher tyres allowed the German to repass him and take the win.

Lewis Hamilton made a slow start from pole position and was then pitched into a spin by Kimi Raikkonen, who locked his wheels going into turn 1.

Hamilton then initiated a heroic charge to finish second while Raikkonen also recovered from his 10 second penalty to take the final spot on the podium. Both drivers were able to pass Bottas late in the race, demoting the Finn down to fourth position.

Force India moved ahead of McLaren to sixth place in the constructors’ standings after Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez finished seventh and 10th respectively at Silverstone.

Perez spun at the start of the race while avoiding incidents at the head of the field, but a two-stop strategy catapulted him into 11th place on road. He was later promoted to the final points-paying position after Pierre Gasly was handed a post-race penalty for a clash between them.

Arjun Maini qualified seventh for the Silverstone round of F2 series and made some impressive moves to jump up to fifth position.

However, a botched pitstop cost him over 20 seconds and dropped him outside the points, and he eventually finished 14th. Sunday’s sprint race also didn’t yield any points, as his grid position was compromised by the feature race.

Maini was involved in on-track collisions with teammate Santino Ferrucci in both races, with the American handed penalties at each occasion.

Ferrucci was also seen deliberately hitting Maini’s car on the cool down lap after the sprint race, with the stewards slapping him with a four-race, two-round ban for that offense.

Indian NRT team’s run of World Supersport podiums ended in Italy with star Jules Cluzel finishing fourth and Thomas Gradinger retiring from the race.

However, the team remains well in contention for both the riders and the teams’ championship with four races remaining in the season.

Narain Karthikeyan was caught out by mixed weather conditions in qualifying for the Fuji Super Formula race, leaving him 18th on the grid.

With all Honda drivers struggling for pace in dry conditions on Sunday, Karthikeyan wasn’t able to make much progress and ended up 16th in the final classifications.

Sri Lanka’s Bryan Perera and Chennai racer Karthik Tharani scored two wins apiece in the Euro JK category of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship.

However, it is Ashwin Datta who leads the standings after the first round, having finished three of the weekend’s four races on the podium.

Honda rider Rajiv Sethu scored a double win in the Super Sport 165cc class in the second round of National Motorcycle Racing Championship in Chennai.

In both races Sethu had to pass TVS Racing’s Jagan Kumar, who had qualified on pole position.
