Frank Williams is aiming for a better result in Bahrain this weekend than the team achieved last year and hopes for another exciting race. Williams picked up just two points in 2004 at Sakhir but after the encouraging start to 2005 by Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber, the boss is keen to see how the pair will shape up in Bahrain.
"Last year's result wasn't what we had hoped for so we will be looking to improve upon that this time around," said Williams. "With impressive performances demonstrated by Mark and Nick so far this season, we're looking forward to seeing what they can do in the desert."
"The track itself is state of the art with plenty of overtaking opportunities which should allow for some exciting, but I hope, clean, racing."
Renault is setting the benchmark so far this season, with two victories from the first two races, and Williams will have further changes to its cars as Sakhir in the hope of challenging the French squad. In Bahrain the heat will be a factor but after enduring similar conditions in Malaysia, the team is confident.
"As in Malaysia, we'll be bringing some further aero revisions to Bahrain which we hope will help to close the gap to the currently dominant Renaults," Williams commented. "The aero team at the factory has done a great job recently, developing new parts over the past couple of months which have significantly aided our track performance."
"As ever, the BMW engines have proved they can last the distance, even in the extreme heat in Malaysia, and have therefore provided our drivers with the requisite power and reliability to get the job done. Michelin's input has also been invaluable and we don't doubt their continued dedication will keep paying dividends."
The circuit, which hosted its first F1 race last year, is one that Williams praises: "The Bahrainis have set a new standard in Formula One, so I'm delighted to be returning for what I'm sure will be another great motor race," he remarked.
After this weekend F1 returns to Europe and Williams praised the work put in by the team during the long distance events. "The start of the season is always exhausting for everyone involved. The team, both at Grove and Munich, has done an excellent job since the start of the year, but we have to keep working hard to ensure we remain in the fight for the championship."
