Williams interested in Newey

Williams has been giving itself a bit of a shake up recently and Frank Williams would consider having McLaren designer/technical director Adrian Newey back in his team. Newey previously worked at Williams before moving to McLaren in 1997, and his contract with the Woking squad expires next year.

"We'd certainly have a look," Frank Williams told the BBC when asked if he was interested in Newey's services. With the previous internal shuffles at Williams -- Patrick Head moved to the position of director of engineering and Sam Michael took over the role of technical director -- there could be room for someone of Newey's experience.

However, McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh doesn't believe that Newey is thinking of moving on. "Adrian has certainly given me and Ron (Dennis) the impression that he's happy within the team," he said.

"Do I believe he is going to go to another Formula One team? No, I don't believe he would. I don't believe there's any will, motivation or justification for him to do that."

Whitmarsh conceded that there may come a time when Newey might want to take a break but for the moment he is concentrating on McLaren. "Adrian is a very focused individual and at the moment he is totally focused and working hard on next year's car."

"And I think that's what's important to him -- making sure we are out there to win a championship next year. The relationship between Adrian and the team is probably stronger and better than it's ever been."

In July this year the BBC reported that Newey was contemplating his future and said he would 'wait and see' how he felt when his contract with McLaren expires at the end of July 2005.
