BMW motorsport director Gerhard Berger thinks Williams need to build a better chassis to go with the BMW engine in order to challenge Ferrari. This year's engine is considered by many the most powerful on the grid yet Ferrari still remain out of reach. Berger said a 'quantum leap' is needed by Williams to match the car to the power.

"To really draw level with Ferrari, Williams must make a quantum leap," Berger commented. "Just like we had to make an effort two years ago as far as the engine is concerned, it is now Williams' job to improve the chassis. I'm convinced Williams will manage the huge step. A revolution is possible. Williams has already modified their aerodynamics team and we've also offered them help in other fields. We are able to offer much help with our know-how."

Even with such a step forward, Berger does not think Williams would be able to beat Ferrari next season but the team could at least draw level: "We must draw even with Ferrari from the beginning of the season," he said. "I don't believe, however that we'll be able to overtake and beat Ferrari. In any case, we want to challenge them more than this year."

So far this season Williams seem to be the only team that can challenge Ferrari in qualifying -- despite a late resurgence from McLaren last weekend -- but in the races the Scuderia quickly vanish into the distance. Even five pole positions from Juan Pablo Montoya could not be translated into one win.
