Justin Wilson knows that with Minardi he's not likely to be mixing it with the front runners at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, but is aiming to at least finish the race. With the new points system, where finishers up to eighth can score, Wilson thinks that if he can cross the line, there's a chance he can open his account for the season.
"Minardi are traditionally at the back because they struggle for budget and it's the same again this year, but we will make the most of any opportunity," he said, according to the BBC. "Obviously it would be a dream start if we could score points but our main aim is to get to the finish, and if we do that then we have a good chance of getting in the points.""I hope to do well but there are no guarantees. If you take your eye off the ball or you miss something it's not going to happen, so you have got to keep focus in what you believe you can do. If it all works out you will do well."
The British driver believes the change to the points system will give smaller teams more chance of picking up a point or two and hopes Minardi can benefit from it: "You have to take each year as it comes, especially this year with all the rule changes," he commented. "The first couple of grands prix we will take it as it comes, and if things are going well, then that is great."
"With the points coming down to eighth it makes it a little bit more within reach and I just hope we can make the most of that. It has made it a lot more accessible. My guess is that it was to allow the smaller teams more of a chance of scoring points and also to keep the championship alive longer throughout the season."
