Spain Post GP; F1 2022 BIOFUELS with Petronas' Giuseppe D'Arrigo

For the skeptics, who never fail, it's all thanks to the car in his hands. Of that missile, which Lewis Hamilton has been driving since 2013 and of which he knows every trick, every detail. But the reality is that, even in a super-technological and at times too box-dependent F1 like the current one, the difference is still who is behind the wheel. And in Spain # 44 still proved it. Last Saturday at Montmelo, yet another historic milestone arrived. Pole number 100. Thrilling figures destined to grow.

Leclerc was on the podium for almost half of the race, the problems with rear tire wear disappeared, race pace, a completely different story. Leclerc: "We have fewer podiums than in 2020, but we are stronger and you can see it in the third sector where I was really fast while in past years we weren't so competitive." The formidable driveability of the SF21 in the last stretch of the Spanish circuit, the slowest and most technical that requires perfect chassis skills, is positively surprising.

Montmelò has shown that Red Bull has been able to respond to Mercedes' progress that has always been dominant on an extremely technical circuit. Verstappen: “It's a Mercedes track and we were close. We still have to catch up, because we are a bit slower. But we have grown a lot compared to last year."

In just 7 days Adrian Newey corrected the set-up parameters of Portimao and put on the track a RB16B that was perfectly balanced in terms of aerodynamics and capable of making the most of the tires in the race.

Exclusively at ChronoGP Giuseppe D’Arrigo, Group CEO & Managing Director - PETRONAS Lubricants International, talks to us about the evolutions that will be made on fuels in the 2022 Formula 1 season. Power, reliability and consumption today play a fundamental role in an F1 where the Power Unit is dominant in the centrality of the project.

In view of the 2022 regulations, which require a fuel mixture with 10% bio-fuel, an acceleration is expected in the study of new combustion processes. A fuel formulated with a component of Bio Fuel changes the flame expansion rate and the calorific value, factors that will have an impact on the design of the combustion chambers and on the fine-tuning of all injection, atomization and injection pressure parameters.

We are facing a new revolution in the sector considering that in the following years the percentage of bio fuel is destined to grow.

Binotto: "Fuel producers will have only one opportunity to make their best product, as it will be frozen for three years"

But even the motorists will have only one, unique chance to design their best technology and adapt their engines to the new bio-fuels arriving in 2022.FIA grants a final development window on tested architecture and fuel systems after all blocked for the next 3 years.
