Another day and yet another winner in the new FIA Formula two championship. This time Andy Soucek battled through the field from his fifth place grid position to take the win, putting him firmly back in the championship fight.

"It was a great race; I got a good start and I was going to attack Nicola (De Marco), but it was too risky," commented Soucek. "It was a good fight with Julien, but to get my first win was just amazing for us this weekend. The next round at Spa is my favourite track, so I hope to fight for podiums or even a victory there."

Julien Jousse made his first appearance on the podium after claiming second position. "It was tricky at the beginning with the cars stopped in front of me, but I got a good start anyway," he said. "The fight with Andy was very hard, but it was good points for the championship and I hope I can now continue like this."

A rather unfortunate Nicola De Marco had to make do with third place in a race he looked destined to win. A spin on the tenth lap ended hopes for a victory but he did recover to take the last podium place.

He commented, "I made a mistake and I am very disappointed," He added, "I had a good start and I was quick throughout the race. I normally do not make mistakes but I did in this moment. I lost out on victory, but at least it is my first podium in Formula Two."

The race started with drama as the two lead cars did not get away from the line. Henry Surtees who had put himself on pole in the qualifying session in the morning was looking forward to a better start than he had had in race one.

The son of the renowned John Surtees had said: "After only doing about 200 meters in yesterday's race, I thought I had better get my act together quickly! It's a bit daunting starting from pole, but I got a good start yesterday. I just need to do the same and get down to turn one in the lead."

Unfortunately for the young Brit that good start did not come, and a similar fate fell on the second placed car driven by Mikhail Aleshin.

Yet more mayhem ensued before the first lap was over. At turn two seven cars were involved in a major incident which left Alex Brundle, Henri Karjalainen, German Sanchez, Pietro Gandolfi and Carlos Iaconelli out, whilst Jens Hoing and Robert Wickens were able to keep going -- although not for too long in the case of Wickens who later retired. This completed a miserable weekend for the Canadian who came to Brno with a perfect score sheet and left without taking even one additional point.

Edoardo Piscopo took the fourth place while Milos Pavlovic took fifth and Armaan Ebrahim gaining a good sixth place. Tobias Hegewald and Kazim Vasiliauskas rounding off the points positions taking seventh and eighth respectively.

Winner of the first race in the Czech Republic and the new championship leader Mirko Bortolotti did not have such a clear run in the second race, as a collision with Sebastian Hohenthal ended his afternoon.

After the first four rounds at Valencia and now the Czech Republic Red Bull drivers hold the top three spots in the championship but things are now very close with 6 weekend race meetings left. Bortolotti still leads Wickens by one point after both failed to score in the second race at Brno. Aleshin is now just four points adrift. A good showing from Jousse and Soucek have leapt up the table with Jousse now on 16 points and Soucek now on 15 points.

The next round is just a week away -- 26th to 28th June -- in the stunning Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. With the Belgian circuit renowned for its unpredictable weather and close racing the Formula Two championship will surely continue to provide an exciting spectacle for race goers and drivers alike.
