Jerez F3.5: Fittipaldi dominates Sunday qualifying

Pietro Fittipaldi maintained his strong qualifying record by collecting his sixth pole position of the Formula V8 3.5 season at Jerez.

The Brazilian failed to stand on the podium on the previous two rounds at Spa and Monza despite starting every race from the front row, but put his title campaign back on track by taking second in the Jerez Saturday race.

He had a low-key start to the Sunday qualifying, with Race 1 pole-sitter Egor Orudzhev setting the pace in the first half, followed by his teammate Matevos Isaakyan.

The AVF duo were first to improve as the final flyers began as well, with Isaakyan edging ahead of Orudzhev.

However, Fittipaldi managed to lower the benchmark by half a second, his 1m26.515s the fastest time set over the weekend.

Orudzhev improved marginally to steal second from Isaakyan, who will share the second row with RP Motorsport's Damiano Fioravanti.

Alfonso Celis (Fortec) will start fifth, having narrowly beaten points leader Rene Binder to the spot.

Race 1 winner Roy Nissany (RP) was more than eight tenths slower in seventh, followed by Diego Menchaca (Fortec), Nelson Mason (Teo Martin) and Yu Kanamaru (RP).
