A Collision A Few Metres Away From The Finish Line Causes Matteo Pellegrino's Victory To Go Up in Smoke!

50 metres and one last corner to go and it seemed that Matteo Pellegrino had sealed his victory in race 1. However, the young driver had to battle it out with his opponent Briere who tried to snatch Pellegrino's position in vain. The result: a collision and Pellegrino was taken off the track. The lack of sportsmanship of this gesture not only cost Pellegrino the victory but Briere himself lost his chance to be in first place. Miguez who was close behind snatched the victory instead!

In race 2 things went a little better. Pellegrino took off in 4th place on the grid and managed to overtake his team-mate Pavlovic and then Miquez who was the winner of the first race. The 2nd place finish of the Vergani Racing team's driver partially satisfies him seeing that he deserved the first victory of the season.

In spite of this, throughout the whole weekend Pellegrino proved that he is constantly improving. So much so that he is regularly in front of the field. Only a few inconveniences with the CPU prevented him from being in the lead during the qualifications. Once those problems were resolved, Pellegrino proved that he deserved to be in the top positions.

Matteo Pellegrino

"What can I say. I had race 1's victory in my hand but lost it a few metres away from the finish line and it wasn't even my fault.

In the third section of the track, my car was a little slower than Briere's by a few decimals. Regardless of this minor handicap, I held on tight to my first position for most of the race. I fought off Briere's attacks and the Epsilon team's driver wasn't able to overtake me. So the driver tried to snatch it at all costs during the last turn.

I kept myself on the inside line and left some space externally but Briere decided to hit me head on instead of trying to simply overtake me.The result is obvious: a victory that went up in smoke during the last few metres.

I could have gone home with a victory but instead I have to settle with the second place. Nevertheless, the fact that I am very competitive remains."
