The first race of the World Series by Renault weekend in France was won by points leader Kevin Magnussen at Paul Ricard. The Dane started weekend setting the fastest time in the collective test day before grabbing the pole in his Carlin Formula Renault 3.5, and went on to score his third victory of the season.

Second place belonged to Antonio Félix da Costa for the Arden Caterham. Third went to Fortec Motorsports' Stoffel Vandoorne. However now the final outcome could change after the appeal by the Carlin team.

Magnussen took a major win today toward the 2013 championship but the race stewards of the meeting have now excluded him from the first race at the famous French circuit; placing his chance for the title in jeopardy.

Per the statement from the series: "Following a report by the Technical Delegate, and after a meeting between the various parties involved, the Stewards found car #20 to be in breach of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series Technical Regulations.

"Consequently, Kevin Magnussen (DAMS) is excluded from the results of race one. This is due to his car's non-conformity to article 19.15 of the Sporting Regulations; article 3.1.1 of the Technical Regulations; and/or page 20 of the nomenclature, which states that anything not explicitly and expressly authorized by the Technical Regulations is prohibited."

Carlin has already notified that they will appeal the decision especially when they have the written correspondence regarding the flap of the DRS on car no. 20 driven by Magnussen which is the point of contention. Per the DAMS team, “Since the 2012 season after permanent consultation with the Renault Sport Organisation DAMS has been using the same DRS flap."

The second race will be held tomorrow and the DAMS team, along with Magnussen, are continuing on with their main goal: Winning the championship.
