MONACO: IMPORTANT POINTS IN THE HOME RACE
The hectic weekend at Monaco, third round of the World Series by Renault, ended for Stefano Coletti with important points for the championship's classification.
After obtaining the fifth time in 1.27.317, in the forty-five minutes of free practice on Thursday morning, on Saturday the driver from Monaco got on track in turn A qualifying. The fight with Mikhail Aleshin (Carlin) for the provisional pole position inflamed the session until the last instants: Coletti ended with the second best time (1'27.317) worth the fourth place, after turn B, on the starting grid of the race scheduled for Sunday morning.
Today, at the start, the driver for Team Comtec did not commit any mistakes and kept without problems his position. The race did not offer particular twists until two laps to the end when Coletti, who had been suffering from an efficiency decrease in the braking system, had to give up on the repeated attacks from Hartley (Tech 1) before crossing the finishing line with a fifth place which is extremely useful for the classification, whereby he is now forth at 26 points, 24 adrift the leader Aleshin.
Stefano Coletti:
"It was crucial to exploit the only free practice session to be competitive here at Monaco: I worked with the team in the right direction and this allowed me to fight for the pole position in qualifying.
Unfortunately, a small mistake in the final sector deprived me of a pole position that would have turned out very useful. I knew that it would have been very difficult to recover some positions in the race, but I would have loved to salute from the podium of my home race friends and fans that came to see me live; in the finale it was not possible to defend the forth place since my braking system was not at his maximum efficiency and the braking pedal was very long.
Even if from one side I am a bit disappointed for the result of the race, from the other I am satisfied anyway for a result that could be useful for the championship".
The World Series by Renault will be back on track next 6 June at Brno (Czech Republic).
