PIPPA MANN GAINS TEN PLACES SCORES A POINT

British female Pippa Mann drove a sensational race in the opening round of the World Series by Renault 3.5 Championship, to take a deserved tenth position at Monza and score her first point of the year! Coming from 20th on the grid, the 23 year-old produced some spectacular passing maneuvers, as she carved her way through the field to claim that last points position.

Having made a good start, Mann stayed out of the chaos heading into the first notorious chicane at the Italian circuit. Completing the first lap in 17th place, Mann continued to push hard, gradually bringing her lap times down and hoping to gain on the cars ahead. At the halfway stage Mann was lying in 12th position, sandwiched between Marcos Martinez (Pons Racing) and RC Motorsport's Aleix Alcaraz. Defending her line and pushing for an advantage, Mann attempted the overtaking moves and made them stick, placing her in tenth position with just three laps to go.

Keeping her composure, Mann brought the P1 Motorsport over the line to take one championship point, and a much improved grid position for Sunday's Race Two.

Mann's team mate Giedo van der Garde took a thrilling victory from eighth on the grid, to give P1 Motorsport their first ever win in the series, and both the driver's combined scores also hand P1 an early lead in the constructors title chase.

Speaking about the afternoon, Mann said: "I'm very pleased to have come from so far back on the grid to score a point today - it's a great result for me. I was disappointed to have been penalized in qualifying and be starting from 20th position when I could have been on pole, so obviously I had a lot of work to do. The car felt good and I was able to really push hard to gain so many places. I've been training incredibly hard over the winter months on my fitness and I really think it paid off today. I cannot wait for tomorrow's race."
