JUST OUTSIDE THE POINTS
Pippa Mann just missed out on scoring her second points finish of the weekend when she brought her P1 Motorsport car home in 12th position in Sunday's World Series by Renault race from Monza. Having started from 15th on the grid, Mann was looking to chase down a position in the top ten, but unfortunately a tough first corner took her out of contention.
Having made a good initial start off the line, the British female driver headed down towards the first chicane in the middle of the field. Mann was squeezed from the outside as she braked for the apex, and to avoid incident was forced to back off. The safety car was deployed for an incident ahead of her, and Mann finished the first lap having dropped back to 19th place. On the re-start, Mann was quick and began trying to move back up the field. Overtaking immediately into the chicane, Mann continued to fight for track position and at the midway point in the race was lying in 13th.
From there, the P1 Motorsport driver began battling hard with Miguel Molina (Prema Powerteam), and frustratingly this prevented her from moving further forward. Finally taking 12th position from the Spaniard, Mann had just a handful of laps remaining, and eventually crossed the line just outside of the top ten.
Though she had managed to climb back up the field from 19th position, the British female driver was disappointed with the result: "I know we deserved more from the race today, and we definitely had the pace to finish higher and score some points. It's been a difficult weekend for me personally - losing eighth in qualifying on Friday would ultimately have seen me start from pole in yesterday's race, but as it was I had to start from way back on the grid. Today I was hoping for more, but I really just had so much to do after that first corner. As I've always said though, it's a good thing that we are quick - we just need a little more luck next time!"
Update:
Please note that due to Salvador Duran (Interwetten.Com Racing) being given a 25 second time penalty following an incident during the race, Pippa Mann (P1 Motorsport) finished in 11th position in Race Two from the World Series by Renault's opening weekend in Monza.
