GOOD TEST RESULTS FIRE WALKER UP FOR ROUND TWO
Jersey, UK -- 27 April 2007: James Walker has just returned from a very productive test at Magny Cours in France where he and the Fortec team made preparations for round two of the 2007 World Series by Renault in Germany next week (5/6 May).
The Jersey racing driver finished day one in ninth place out of 29 cars, running consistently in blistering track temperatures. He tried various set-ups to get ready for the next race and did plenty of runs on new and old tyres; his pace on old tyres being particularly good. A solid 12th place on day two cemented the efforts of James and the team who are now all looking forward to getting down to business in Germany.
"We've got a good plan for the next race now," said James. "I feel like I've got my confidence back after taking a bit of a knock at Monza."
The German round of the World Series by Renault takes place at the Nurburgring, the home for many years of the European Grand Prix. The circuit lies in the shadows of the daunting "Nordschleife", a 14-mile rollercoaster ride of a track, twisting through the Eifel Mountains. Today's circuit is tame by comparison but it will come alive next Sunday when 30 World Series by Renault cars roar into the first tight right-hander, the "Castrol 'S'", and on into the twisty opening stadium section.
James won at the Nurburgring in 2005, whilst driving for Fortec in F3. He took the lead from sixth place on the first lap and didn't look back until he took the chequered flag, setting the fastest lap of the race along the way. It goes without saying that the Nurburgring is one of James' favourite tracks.
"I enjoy racing at the Nurburgring, not least because I've won there. I was quick there on the first day of the recent World Series test so I want to go back and show that pace. I hope that after the disappointments of Monza we can go to Germany and have a great race weekend. There's no reason why we can't, especially as the car now feels the best it has all year."
After two 45-minute practice sessions on Friday, qualifying is scheduled to take place at 0900hrs on Saturday. Race one takes places later that day at 1400hrs with race two on Sunday at 1300hrs.
