With 26,000 spectators at the Red Bull Ring – an almost record attendance for the venue since its reopening – the Austrian round of the World Series by Renault was a resounding success. The fourth meeting of the season was packed full of entertainment, including Jean-Eric Vergne in the Red Bull Racing F1 Show, and featured action from the European Le Mans Series.
Arnaud Boulanger, competition director at Renault Sport Technologies : "The World Series by Renault’s success at the Red Bull Ring confirms that we can succeed in unknown territories. We benefited from a top-class infrastructure and were able to put on a fantastic show for the public. Over the two days, we offered a record number of activities both on the track and in the paddock – all, as ever, with free entry for spectators.
For Renault Sport Technologies, it has been another step forward in the development of the World Series by Renault concept. The presence of the European Le Mans Series was another source of satisfaction. It was a positive experience for all parties, and we have achieved our objective with this first joint meeting. From a motorsport point of view, this past week has shown that we are succeeding in our aims.
The Formula Renault championships, which run within the World Series by Renault, are allowing young drivers to access Formula 1. Several of our talented youngsters were invited to take part in the Young Driver Test : Antonio Félix da Costa with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, Kevin Magnussen with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 Team, and Will Stevens with Catherham F1 Team.
Furthermore, Sauber F1 Team have announced that they plan to prepare Sergey Sirotkin for a race seat. All of this shows that our aims and objectives are correct, and suggests that our methods are working. We are working hard to ensure that this continues, and to improve every detail even further."
