Motopark Academy announces driver line-up for 2010

With Team Motopark Academy, one of Germany's most successful racing teams is going to make its ATS Formula 3 Cup debut, in 2010. The squad around Team Principal Timo Rumpfkeil is based at Oschersleben's circuit and has signed the drivers four all its four cars as early as in mid-December, 2009.

Team Motopark Academy is going to contest its maiden ATS Formula 3 Cup season with an international driver line-up. The squad's colours will be represented by Denmark's Kevin Magnussen, Brazilian Luis Derani, Swede Jimmy Eriksson and Luis Sa Silva from Angola. All the four Motopark Academy drivers will contest the 2010 season with Dallara F307 Volkswagen single-seaters. "We massively rely on the new cooperation with Volkswagen," says Timo Rumpfkeil, "Particularly as our involvement in the development will be bigger. This situation increases our chances of securing top positions and in combination with our line-up we should have a lot of winning potential."

Team Motopark Academy was founded in 1998 and is based right at Oschersleben's circuit. It celebrated numerous successes in Formula Renault, secured more than 80 pole positions and race wins. Since 2004, the team has won seven Formula Renault 2.0 Championship titles - a proof for the team's high standards and its ability to perfectly prepare racing cars. From 2010, the squad will fully focus on Formula 3 - with four cars in the ATS Formula 3 Cup and another three in the Formula 3 Euro Series.

17-year old Kevin Magnussen in particular should be able to deliver, this year. The son of Jan Magnussen, the former Formula 1 driver who races sports cars today, finished runner-up in the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC. He made the step from the Formula ADAC Masters up to Formula Renault at the beginning of the 2008 season and has got the experience of several kart seasons under his belt. His team-mates Jimmy Eriksson and Luis Sa Silva are 18 years old and also belong to the younger ATS Formula 3 Cup drivers while 16-year old Luis Derani even will be one of the youngest drivers on the 2010 grid.

Timo Rumpfkeil: "We know the strengths and weaknesses of our drivers very good. After all, we cooperated with them in Formula Renault, last year. Now we can tie in with our work rather smoothly - with the series being the only thing that has changed."

The involvement of Team Motopark Academy represents another boost for the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The races of the coming season are expected to be contested by an impressive grid of nearly 30 cars, with seven of the drivers competing in the ATS Formula 3 Trophy.
