RICHARDS TO LEAVE TEAM BRM AFTER 15 YEARS SERVICE.

ADELAIDE, DECEMBER 20th, 2005 -- TEAM BRM's Technical Director Ian Richards has today announced his decision to retire his post at the dual-championship winning Australian Formula 3 Team.

Richards' decision comes after 15 years of involvement with Team BRM and its previous incarnations, leading the team to multiple Australian Formula 3 Championships as well as an Australian Formula 2 Championship with team owner Bronte Rundle.

Despite a trying season for the Adelaide-based outfit in this year's Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship series, Car's run this season by the highly experienced engineer still found success -- Ian Dyk sweeping the opening race of this years seventh round at the A1 Grand Prix meeting last November in dominant fashion.

Richards -- who currently serves on the Formula 3 Australia management board -- noted that the time was right for him to stand down from his role within the team.

"After 15 years of working with a group of people they become like family." he said.

"The Rundle's -- and everyone at Team BRM - are like that, however I felt that the time had come to stand down from the team.

"The time was right for a change and for me to move on and I'm leaving Team BRM with all my personal relationships in tact. I wish the team the best for the future.

"I'd like to make a point in saying that my leaving Team BRM is not me walking away from Formula 3, or Motorsport in general. Whilst I don't have anything in place for 2006, if an opportunity presents itself that I'm interested in I'll take it.

"I plan on standing for the board Formula 3 Australia once again, but aside from that, nothing is set for next year." He concluded.

Team BRM owner Bronte Rundle noted Richards' achievements and said that there was no doubt that he had been a key component to the teams' success in recent times.

"Ian is a great friend and mentor to me personally and has been one of the architects of F3 racing in Australia." Rundle noted.

"During our time together we have won an Australian Formula 2 title in addition to two Australian F3 Championships.

"Ian has been involved at the coalface in Motorsport for 40 years and like all of us there comes a time when other challenges must be looked at." He said.

"I know Ian will continue working on the board of F3 and I know he is keen to have an expanded role in 2006.

"All in the team will miss the direction that Ian has given us." He said.

The team has already begun preliminary moves to ensure staffing continuity into the 2006 racing season, which kicks off at Wakefield Park Raceway, Goulburn, in early March next year.
