A FAST BUT UNLUCKY END TO SEASON FOR ALAJAJIAN

Second place in the 2005 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship for the CAMS Gold Star just wasn't to be for Protecnica Racing's Chris Alajajian, but he finished the season with plenty of pace at Eastern Creek Raceway.

Alajajian entered the weekend aiming to take second place in the championship; however a pair of startline induced incidents in today's final races of the year put paid to his chances.

In the opening race, Alajajian put in a gallant drive to second place. He stalled off the line, but charged back through the field, setting the fastest lap along the way.

He got off the line cleanly in race two, however the start was adjudged to have been too clean.

'The Chris', who was running in second place at the time, was served a stop-go penalty but again recovered and finished fourth. Some consolation, though, was that he again set the fastest lap of the race. Highlighting his pace, it was his seventh fastest lap of the championship, the most of any driver in the championship this year.

"Just when you think the bad luck is over, it comes back again," Alajajian, 19, conceded.

"We have the team putting together a great car which was very fast today, so it comes down to the driver. In the races, the driver made some mistakes at the start.

"I know what I'm capable of doing, and that wasn't what I am capable of. It's racing and there isn't much I can do about it now, but it would have been good to end the year on a better note for the Protecnica guys who have worked so hard."

Both races were won by Michael Trimble, Alajajian's rival for second place in the championship. It means Alajajian finishes third in the 2005 CAMS Gold Star.

"It [the championship position] could have been worse with everything that has happened this year, but it could have been a lot better given the speed we have had," said Alajajian.

"This year just wasn't my year, and I can't blame anyone else but myself for what happened today. Now we'll just have to put it behind us and keep working so I can achieve my goals."

Protecnica Racing thanks the ongoing support of Jack Hillermans Smash, Elf Oil, Scuderia Veloce Motors, Nudie, Workflow Systems, Bilstein, Moody Kiddell & Partners, Heasman Steering, Travel Cafe, Disc Brakes Australia, Hawk Performance, Monza Mens Boutique and H & R Springs.
