The 2001 Formula 3 racing season kicks of this coming weekend (17/18th March) as a support category to the Konica V8 super cars at Oran Park.

The season is looking sensational with a number of new cars, new entrants and new drivers. Out from last year is current Champion Paul Stephenson. In his car, the Dallara Toms Toyota, comes former Formula Holden driver Damien Digby. Also making his debut for this season is talented and experienced New Zealand open wheel specialist Daynom Templeman. Daynom will bring with him an International sponsor entering the Australian race seen for the first time. However, they are involved in International motorsport. Details will be announced at the race meeting. Daynom will drive for Bronte Rundle Motorsport and partner Darren Palmer, suiting up for another tilt at the "Driver to England" Championship.

New Dallara's are also being debuted for Melbourne's John Boothman and Graham Holmes from Denneliquin. Mike Beeley from Sydney, last years Level 2 winner, has bought a new Dallara and has moved up to Level 1. Mike was a class above the rest in last years Level 2 class and will be one to watch in the outright class this year. With Mike moving up to Level 1, it has freed up his Reynard for Craig Smith from Sydney to make his debut in the category. Bill Maddocks (king of the "tinnies") has finally seen the green light and moved up into a Dallara to contest Level 2. His consistency over the years would see him as a favourite to be amongst the top 3 in Level 2 at the end of the season.

Another new Dallara making its debut at the first round is the Douglas Sports Management entered car. The driver is TBA. This is also the case with the Picola Scuderia Dallara driven by Peter Hackett last year. Another new Dallara for a Brisbane based team is still on the water and has not made it to shore in time.

Another feature to look out for this year is the new paint schemes the teams have adopted. The cars are very bright and colourful.

Further details on the National Championship will be announced at Oran Park.
