Monza, preview: four tier challenge for the title of Italian 2010 Champion
The Italian Formula 3 is about to leave in Monza this weekend the final round of a thrilling season.
The title fight reaches its finale with four drivers still able to aim to the final success: the current classification leader Cesar Ramos (BVM-Target) stands at 148 points and will have first of all to defend himself from the attacks by Stephane Richelmi (Lucidi Motors), second at 142 points. More difficult, but yet not impossible, will be the deed for Andrea Caldarelli (Prema Junior), third at 124 points, who will have to watch his back from Daniel Mancinelli (Team Ghinzani), fourth at 119.
Among the rookies, Gabriel Chaves (Eurointernational) is now at the lead with 182 points and will fight a duel with Kevin Giovesi (JD Motorsport), second at 161. Both in the absolute and rookies classifications the sum of the fourteen best results, that by rule will award the title, could reserve anyway some twists.
Engines on the single seaters of the first four drivers of the absolute classification have been verified at the bench at FPT Racing headquarters at the presence of the technical steward Roberto De Felice as a guarantee of the performance equality of all engines in such a way to reach an absolute transparency in this red hot season finale.
Protagonists' quotes follow:
Cesar Ramos (BVM-Target):
"Just a few days are left to the most important weekend. My objective is
obviously becoming the new Italian Champion: I am leading the
classification but the advantage has been reduced to just six points; I
will have therefore to finish both races in front of Richelmi in a
challenge that announces to be thrilling considered that we have been
very fast in collective tests held last week".
Stephane Richelmi (Lucidi Motors):
"After collective tests I am very satisfied of the car: we have done a
good work which allowed us to set the second time without exploiting
slipstreams. Curiously, on Wednesday Ramos and I have been "team mates"
in a testing day for the next season: this has been a chance to work
together, but this weekend we will play for the championship.
I am very motivated, certain that team Lucidi Motors will put at my
disposal a competitive car as usual. No matter the final result, my
season has been certainly positive therefore I will get on track without
any pressure".
Andrea Caldarelli (Prema Junior):
"We did not stop believing in the chance of getting the title and we will
give the best to make it until mathematics will allow us. After
Vallelunga our position in the classification seemed to be unavoidably
compromised but we managed to reopen a bit games at Mugello. We will race
an agressive weekend but we will also manage it with intelligence".
Daniel Mancinelli (Team Ghinzani):
"Data emerged from collective tests were fairly satisfactorily;
personally I am really psyched up and determined for the final round of a
very intense season for me. Hopefully, good luck will be on my side this
time".
Sergio Campana (Lucidi Motors):
"After the good performance at Vallelunga I aim to getting on the podium
of both races in Monza too: I will race pressure-less, trying to finish
in the best possible way my season".
Tom Dillmann (Eurointernational):
"The technical problems that slowed us down in Mugello being solved, I
believe that we can be highly competitive in Monza that is a track which
last year turned out to suit Mygale".
Alberto Cerqui (Ombra Racing):
"In 2009 I conquered in Monza the Formula Azzurra title and I'd like to
finish my debut race in Formula 3 with a good result. Mathematics still
allows me to aim to the third final position of the rookies: it is not
gonna be easy but I will do my best to do it".
Andrea Roda (RC Motorsport):
"Monza is my home race and one of my favourite tracks. The objective is
the final fifth place in the rookies classification: I now have a ten
points gap, which is difficult to fill but not impossible; I am pretty
sure this is gonna be a thrilling season finale".
