The season turning point for the Italian Formula 3 Championship on stage this weekend at Mugello

The round on stage this weekend at Mugello announcest to be crucial for the Italian Formula 3 championship. This appointment will mark the turning point of the season for the prestigious Italian Series powered by FPT Racing engines and will trace the first landmarks in the title fight.

Currently, Daniel Mancinelli (Team Ghinzani), thanks to the two victories in race one of the two latest rounds, and Cesar Ramos (BVM-Target), on the podium in 5 out of 6 races run so far, are the contenders in better shape as shown also by the first and second positions in the championship with just two points separating the two.

At the top of the classification four drivers are packed within 18 points only, a gap well recoverable with just a victory in race one. At the back of the Italian driver and the Brazilian challenger, chasing are the driver from Monaco Stephane Richelmi (Lucidi Motors) author of two victories in as race two and Andrea Caldarelli (Prema Powerteam), who, after an attacking first round awarded with the victory in the opening race, is now called to close a gray cycle. The driver from Pescara will have the aim to do this on the very track that saw him, in 2005, as a 15-years-old winner in Formula Azzurra entering in this way in the history of the Italian motor racing as the youngest winner of a championship race.

Anyway, with just less than 30 drivers on track, all seasoned and separated by very small chronos, the leading group is destined to widen. A possible new entry in this group is the Swiss Christopher Zanella (JD Motorsport), the only driver harvesting points in all rounds so far, and the Finnish Jesse Krohn (RP Motorsport), twice on the podium and sharing with Zanella the fifth position in the championship.

Sergio Campana (Lucidi Motors) and the Belgian Frederic Vervisch (RC Motorsport) aim at an higher continuity of results, the latter having showed at Imola a race pace similar to that of top drivers. On the contrary, the American Gabriel Chaves (Eurointernational) got far away from that rhythm in the round at Imola but promptly countercharged in the lastest testing session held at Varano whereby he obtained the seventh fastest time, first among the Mygale drivers. Mygales appeared to be less competitive on Santerno's banks than in the previous rounds.

Among the novelties at the Tuscan round, the debut of the driver from Perugia Stefano Bizzarri, coming from Auto GP, who will drive the second Dallara from RP Motorsport and the change of colors for the Sicilian driver Eugenio Palmeri who will be at the wheel of the Mygale of Scuderia Victoria.

Both races will be covered live on Italian TV by Nuvolari (SKY 218 and freeview).
