Malaysia's Alex Yoong has been confirmed by the Swiss Racing Team to partner British F3 runner-up and Jaguar F1 Team's newly signed test driver for 2001 Tomas Scheckter in their strong bid to win the 2000 Macau F3 Grand Prix and Korea F3 Grand Prix scheduled for the 19th and 26th of November 2000 respectively.

Malaysia's Alex Yoong is a seasoned Formula 3000 campaigner in Japan's Formula Nippon while South African Scheckter has also raced in the International F3000 in Europe on top of his first full F3 season in Britain. Scheckter is the son of former world champion Jody Scheckter who last won the double world championships for Ferrari in 1979.

The Swiss Racing Team (SRT), though new to the German F3 Championship is not short of expertise with team leader Othmar Welti having successfully ran Formula 1 racers Fontana and Trulli to impressive results in Macau before they got into Formula 1.

Team Manager of the Swiss Racing Team is Eric Kolb who left the very successful German F3 team, KMS, to join Welti after a year with engine builder Spiess. The team comprised experienced mechanics from the Sauber F1 Team and they are very determined to win both the blue ribbon far east F3 events which have propelled many drivers into Formula 1.

The team will be running the Dallara F300 powered by Spiess-Opel engines for Yoong and Scheckter.

"We are very serious about winning as shown by our top drivers signing of Yoong and Scheckter." said Welti.

"Originally we were not interested to be in Macau and Korea until we secured these 2 drivers who will give the team a good chance for wins. It's pointless to be in the far east just for the holiday." added Welti.

Yoong echoed the team's sentiments, "When I heard that Scheckter has signed for SRT, I decided that this is a very serious team and it's great to team up with successful engineers like Welti and Kolb and to partner Scheckter."

"The Formula Nippon season's final round will end in Suzuka 2 weeks before Macau and it will be great to do well in the Macau Grand Prix to round up the year and I will be relying on my experience in Macau to get on top of the rest this time around."

Alex finished 9th in 1998 and 7th last year with the Alan Docking Racing Team of Britain.
