FIA F3000 International Championship - Round 7 race preview.
A1-Ring, Austria. Saturday July 15th.

"CLEAN SLATE FOR NORDIC RACING"

The FIA F3000 International Championship heads to Austria and the A1-Ring this coming weekend for the round 7 race of the series, with the Nordic Racing team drivers Kevin McGarrity and Justin Wilson, looking to capitalise on their recent testing performances at the race venue.

The A1-Ring, near Spielberg, Austria, is a circuit consisting of slow and medium-speed corners, surronded by large gravel run-off areas. It is a high downforce track, although not in the same way as Monaco or the Hungaroring. It requires strong brakes, good levels of downforce to assist braking, and good traction to help a driver to get through and out of the corners quickly.

The recent two-day official FIA F3000 test at the A1-Ring saw Nordic driver Justin Wilson posting a time that would have been good enough for third on the grid: "This circuit is a great one to drive," said Wilson, "and the variety of slow and fast corners really make it interesting to race at. Our recent test show that we have the right set-up for the cars here and as long as I get a clear traffic free run, then I am confident of qualifying well here this Friday."

"We are hoping the circuit conditions at the A1-Ring will not have changed too much since the test we had on June 20th and 21st," said Team Manager Chris Mower. "Once again we are concentrating first on qualifying, which will be critical with so many cars on the tight, twisty sections of the circuit. The A1-Ring is made in such a way that if you approach traffic from turn 3 to the end of the lap, it can be very difficult to get by. I am confident that we have a good race set-up and it will be down to Justin and Kevin to prove it is worthy of the top four in qualifying."
