A lot of people on the grandstands welcomed the F.3000 drivers at the 4th round of this 2001 championship, which last race will be next 15th September at the Italian circuit of Monza. The Durango tradition goes on and also this year gives some points to the Venetian team: Jaime Melo, who started from 14th and finished 5th, gains 2 points and is actually lying in 5th place of the drivers' classification. Melo knew that scoring points from the 14th position on the grid would be tough and so he proved it. He made a great start to pick up 7 places at lap 1 due to an accident occurred to the 1st corner and to the overtakings on Maslov and Saelens. Then he managed his advantage pushing as much as he could. A good race also for his team-mate Lancieri who was 10th after only 1 lap then lost 2 position due to an understeering problem.

JAIME MELO: "I'm please with my start and race, as well. At the first corner I saw a lot of cars in the gravel and on the track, due to Bourdais and Friesacher collision, but I passed over. From that moment on I pushed-pushed and pushed. The car was well balanced: me and the team made a good job".

GABRIELE LANCIERI: "I'm pretty happy for the result even if I would have prefer to finish in the point zone. I started from 22nd position so I knew it was not possible to do more than what I did.

This is my first year in the International F.3000, I don't have experience on these tracks with these cars, so I think it's a good result for me also to finish my races.."

Jaime Melo, with 8 points, lies in 5th position of the drivers' classification.

Team Durango Benetton Junior, with 8 points, in 4th position of the teams' classification.
