Nordic Racing head to Hockenheim, Germany, this coming weekend for the eighth round of the FIA F3000 International Championship, the British team riding high on the joy of a second place podium finish in Austria, at the previous round. With just three rounds of the FIA Championship remaining, the order of the day for Nordic drivers Justin Wilson and Kevin McGarrity, will be to secure points finishes.
"We are looking forward to Hockenheim with the same enthusiasm as we did in 1995, when Marc Goossen provided Nordic Racing with our maiden victory," said Team Manager Chris Mower. "We know we are capable of winning races this year and we just need a little luck in qualifying to accomplish that. Our drivers, Justin and Kevin, are both capable of at least finishing in the points here and we are working hard to ensure that happens so that Nordic Racing can move up from fourth to third in the team championship table."
For Justin Wilson, Hockenheim offers the young British driver the chance to shine once more, his drive from 11th to second at the flag in Austria, being the highlight of the race. "I can't wait to get back to Hockenheim," said Justin. "Last year my gearbox broke on the starting grid, so I only managed to move three feet! It is a great circuit and the long straights are quite something. This weekend should produce some good, close racing and as long as I can qualify well, then I am looking forward to adding more points to my total so far this season."
The Hockenheim race circuit is situated in south central Germany between Frankfurt and Stuttgart and first held a Formula One Grand Prix in 1970 and, apart from 1985, the circuit has hosted the German Grand Prix on an annual basis. Famous for it's long straights which are punctuated by slow chicanes, the circuit offers the engineers a chance to work on finding a good balance between straight-line speed and the handling requirements that are neede for the tricky stadium section.
