After a three weeks break from the last German round of the FIA F3000 International Championship, Robert Doornbos and his team were back on circuit for the Hungarian race. With an unpredictable cloudy sky, Robert (Dutch for nationality, but Italian for adoption) secured today a decent 6th position with a minimum gap distance from the rest of the top drivers.
Being this the first approach to this circuit in dry conditions, Doornbos used the first laps to adapt to the track which has been considered technical but not particularly difficult to be learnt. In free practice Robert, with the first set of new tyres, run only there laps as his Lola was perfectly set up and decided to say in pit lane waiting for qualifying. In the final session the Dutch driver fully exploited his last set of Avon to clock his fastest lap time in 1:35.762, less than one tenth away from Renault driver Lopez.
"It has been a regular qualifying" said Robert "During the first laps I found some traffic in front of mine and I couldn't set more than 6 laps, anyway I hope that tomorrow w I can do a good race".
