Coloni Motorsport immediately on top in the qualifying session in Imola: Ricardo Sperafico took the third place!
For Coloni Motorsport the 2003 season of the F.I.A. F.3000 International started really well: in facts Ricardo Sperafico in the Saturday race will start from the third position, thanks to a brilliant qualifying session. Today the young Brazilian, after the first place achieved in the free practice, set the third time in qualify, lapping in 1.38,919. Unfortunately, in the last minutes of the session, the Sperafico's Lola had a problem to the electric system that prevent him from well exploiting the last set of new tyres and so the BMW Williams F1 tester couldn't improve more his time.
A very unlucky day for the Hungarian Zsolt Baumgartner: after an excellent fifth place in the free practice, in the qualifying session Zsolt suffered some troubles to the gearbox (in particular to the 4th gear). Zsolt lapped in 1.40,359, taking the 16th position.
Coloni Motorsport will now focus on the first race of the season and the whole team will continue to work on the cars until the deadline, scheduled on the hh. 16,00 of tomorrow, Saturday 20 April.
Ricardo Sperafico, driver: "It's the first race of the season and the things are going good. I've got some troubles at the end of the session that prevented me from improving my time and rising trough the field.
Tomorrow we will aim to the podium, but is also important to finish the race and think to the championship".
Enzo Coloni , Coloni Motorsport:
"We're satisfied with the qualify results, especially for Ricardo, who did a very good session in spite of a problem in the last and fundamental minutes. Baumgartner was unlucky, but however he showed his driving skills in the free practice with his fifth position. For tomorrow we hope for the podium, we have what is needed for a good race".
