FIRST QUALIFYING SESSION AT MUGELLO: FILIPPI IS THE FASTEST ONCE AGAIN
Luca Filippi is once again at the top of the time sheets after this morning qualifying session, in the circuit he said to be his favourite. With an excellent 1'40"559 the Fisichella Motorsport driver rebuffed the attacks of both Astromega's drivers, Vilander and Ricci, respectively 2nd and 3rd. Ciompi, the fastest man yesterday on free practice, is fourth, having been unable to fully exploit his car's potential because of traffic problems on the track. Fifth time for GP Racing's Alex Lloyd, who was the pace-setter for the first ten minutes of the session. Sixth and seventh respectively BCN's Cressoni and Lloyd's teammate Caceres. Eighth the Czech driver Janis, on a track much alike to his home circuit of Brno, ahead of Maldonado and Engel. Eleventh time for Gattuso, first of the Light Trophy, ahead of Piccini, satisfied with his performance. Following Piccini, the two Lolas B02 driven by Auinger and Charouz, ahead of Strano and Mari and finally the two debutants Sidi and Chiminelli.
COMMENTARY
At the 10th minute of the qualifying session 12 drivers had taken to the track. The fastest is Lloyd for GP Racing with 1'41"303, after him Caceres, Cressoni, Engel Gattuso and Auinger. At the 12th, Vilander, on his first lap, sets the fourth time, after that Cressoni had improved his performance and placed himself just after Lloyd. Janis made also a good session start, recording the 5th time on his first lap. At half session, Vilander for Astromega is the first to get a time under 1'40" and takes the head. Thirteen minutes from the end, Ricci, on his first lap, takes the second place behind his team-mate, closely followed by Ciompi, intentioned to reiterate yesterday's success. The last one to take to the track is Maldonado, who sets the 9th time, while Filippi, after a little adjustment in the pit, takes the second place. But it's just the beginning, and on the following lap the FMS's driver takes the definitive lead, setting the fastest time of 1'40"559.
