LUCA FILIPPI WIN IN BRNO
Wonderfull win for Luca Filippi in Brno. The Fisichella Motor Sport driver covered the 22 laps of the czech circuit in 40'54"994, choosing the right moment for a winning pass on Ricci after being conservative in second position for almost the whole race. Exellent performance also for the guy from Uruguay, Caceres, who gained the third step of the podium after a brave fight with Cressoni. Cressoni did remount with great skin from the 13th to the fourth position, after him there are Auinger, of Team Sighinolfi, Engel, sanctioned for an irregular start, and Del Monte, who experienced suspensions problems. Eighth place for Russo, just before the first one of the Light category, Gattuso, then Charouz, Berton and Mari. Bad luck for Vilander, who was running third when he was forced to retire due to an engine failure, and the local driver Janis, outed by a collision with Ciompi. Filippi is now the leader of the Trofeo CSAI F.3000 Italia championship ranking with 18 points, while Gattuso is the first one of the Light category before Berton and Mari.
Maldonado pays early in the day his tribute to bad luck. During the installation lap he's forced to retire due to a fuel-pump failure. Engel take an irregular start and is sanctioned with a drive-trough during lap 3. Ricci is the leader before Filippi who went for a quiet start, then Janis, Ciompi and the finish Vilander. Sixth Caceres, followed by Caceres, del Monte, Auinger, Russo e Berton. Filippi is in the rear of the yellow painted car of Ricci, and keeps a conservative mood in spite of the single tenth of a second that divides him from the rival. During lap 7 Janis spins and crushes in the barriers after a collision with Ciompi. Also the driver from Tuscany is forced to stop after few laps. Lap 8: Vilander, previously passed by Caceres, regaines the third position. In the meantime Cressoni is doing very well, and after 10 laps he's all ready in seventh position, just behind Del Monte and before Engel. Lap 14, Vilander blows the engine and he's out. Filippi chooses the right moment for a move and passes Ricci wide at the first turn after the podium straight. Ricci tryes to resist and spins, but he managed to end second anyway. Three laps short of the chequered flag Engels passes Del Monte in order to get the sixth position. In the final laps only Caceres keeps on fighting with Caceres, but he has finally to surrend.
