JANIS TAKES THE POLE, FILIPPI FROM THE FIRST ROW

This afternoon qualifying has been useful to the F3000 Trophy drivers to check their cars set-ups and try new lines, but did not change anything in the grid resulting from this morning session. The tarmac temperature did not allow the drivers to achieve this morning level of performance, and it is therefore confirmed the pole position for the Czech driver Janis, who will start from first row. Beside him Filippi, and after them Ricci, very happy with his car performance, and Ciompi. Third row for Vilander, the fastest man this afternoon, and Engel ahead of Caceres and Gattuso, the champion of the Light category. Fifth row for Auinger and Di Cienzo, and after them Solieri and Chiminelli. Piccini, who experienced many problems with his Lola'a engine, will start from seventh row.

Commentary -- The first drivers to take to the track are Vilander, Caceres and Ricci. The Finn is immediately fast, setting a time of 1'41"115, but the Brazilian Rocha Tuka is the first one to record a time under 1'41": 1'40"916. Rocha's lead, however, does not last: Janis records a time of 1'40"573, later in the session improved to 1'40"484. Engel is provisionally fourth, followed by Caceres, Auinger and Ciompi, when Ricci takes the lead for Astromega with a time of 1'40"426 and Ciompi sets the fifth fastest time. Five minutes from the end of the session, Vilander takes the head with 1'40"267, a time very similar to his morning record. Good job for Caceres, who succeeds in taking the fourth time, ahead of Rocha and Ciompi, while Filippi, with the eighth fastest time, is behind Engel.
