Young Belgian Nico Verdonck in exellent form producing top six times in Spa
Treacherous wet conditions again in Spa for the International F3000 race on saturday. Like on the Hungaroring, the decision was made to start the race under the Safety Car, so the pack slithered off the line in qualifying order.
"The conditions where very tricky, Nico said, there was a huge amount of spray in the early stages of the race. I really had to drive on feeling because most of the time I even couldn't see the track. Never the less I managed to produce good laptimes alltrough the race. We made a little mistake by staying out on the track to long before my obligatory pitstop and lost some precious time behind both Viso and Toccacello. I think Enrico had some problems with his car because I was a lot faster than he was but I couldn't manage to overtake neder one of them.
After my stop I was producing top six laptimes, and I really believe that with the right choises this weekend we could have scored over here.
At the beginning of this weekend it was really very promising, the car felt very good but we had some bad luck in yesterday's qualifying not being on the track at the right time and today we lost valueble time, but that's racing.
I really want to give credit to my team, the did an exellent job, giving me a very strong car.
I just hear from my manager that I won the best driving style competition. I am very pleased with that because it was won by Montoya in the past, one of my favorite F1 drivers. I also want to thank everybody who gave me there vote."
Nico finished 11th in the race
