Strong Start to Formula BMW Americas Season for Team Apex; Podium and points for rookies in Mexico

Puebla, Mexico (23 March 09)--Team Apex Racing driver James Kovacic emerged from his first-ever Formula BMW Americas race weekend second in the driver championship after taking 3rd place in round one and backing that up with a hard fought 4th place in round two at Autodromo Miguel E. Abed in Puebla, Mexico.

Team Apex teammate Joao Victor Horto of Brazil took 6th and 7th in the two races to lock in 8th in the driver points following the Mexico opener, as Colombian Martin Sala's runs to 7th and 12th saw him take 10th in the driver points.

The three-car Team Apex entry is the only team with an all-rookie roster, but the internationally diverse trio all got solid starts to the 14-round championship as the series made a debut appearance at the Puebla facility.

"We had a lot of confidence in our driver line up after the pre-season testing we did, and this weekend certainly confirmed our expectations," said Team Apex Director of Commercial Development David Hunt. "These guys all did a great job, and I think we learned a lot about what we can work on and where we can work and focus on to improve in the future. We were obviously hoping that James was going to make it back on the podium again in race two, but even though he lost third position so late in the race, he showed a lot of composure and maturity. Now that we have this opening weekend checked off, we are all looking forward to getting back to work again soon out at VIR!"

Virginia International Raceway will be the site of the next round of Formula BMW Americas race action as the series teams with Grand-Am's Rolex Sports Car Series Bosch Engineering 250 event April 24-6 on the classic Virginia course near Danville.
