A frustrating FBMW debut for Tambay at Oschersleben

After months of planning and preparation, single-seater debutant, Adrien Tambay, travelled to Oschersleben's `Motorsport Arena' in North Eastern Germany this weekend, to begin his campaign for the 2007 season ADAC Formula BMW championship.

The sixteen-year-old French driver enjoyed mixed fortunes, as he came to grips with the realities of free practice, qualification, and two race events. In a weekend which saw him running as high as 6th fastest in the timesheets, he qualified a disappointed 13th, just 7/10ths of a second from pole position, after making a few `rookie' errors in the key qualification period. As a result, he found himself `mid-pack', away from the relative safety of the front of the grid, where he'd realistically been expected to qualify, based on strong pre-season form.

On the approach to the first corner in race one (Saturday), Tambay was hit from behind, suffering damage to both his rear wing and suspension assembly. In spite of this, he continued to race through the field gaining four places en-route to 9th position, and his first championship points of 2007.

Entering Sunday's race two, expectations were of a top six result; provided he could make it through the first lap without incident. Unfortunately, he was again struck by another driver, this time breaking the steering mechanism, so ending his race at the very first turn, and bringing to an end a frustrating debut weekend.

Commenting on his Oschersleben experience, Adrien remained positive, stating, "I learned a lot this weekend, especially about the importance of qualifying well. I didn't manage that this time, and put my 27 car in a more risky place for the first turn in each race, paying a heavy penalty for other people's subsequent mistakes. Looking ahead, I've gained a lot, and take 24 series points with me to Lausitzring in two weeks time. We will reach there even better prepared, and much wiser."
