GU-RACING at Norisring: Fast driver - but a lot of trouble.

GU-Racing drivers Jens Hoing (D), Carlos Gaitan (COL), Nikoley Varbitzaliev (BUL) and Max Wissel (D) were fast at the city-race - but accidents hindered better results.

The guys went into the first race from position 12 (Hoing), 13 (Wissel), 18 (Gaitan) and 19 (Varbitzaliev). All GU-Racing drivers were still faster at the Norisring as at Lausitzring before. But the team changed to late to slicks in the Qualifying 1.

By knowing that the cars are good for front-places Jens Hoing and Max Wissel wanted to reach the top-10 still at the start. But this plan backfired: There was a start-accident at the first corner and one car hits the Formula BMW of Max and Jens as well. Max Wissel had to repair some parts at the box - Jens Hoing lost his front-wring at the crash. Both admitted the race again, but it wasn't good for more than place 13 for Jens Hoing and place 20 for Max Wissel after very good lap-times of both drivers.

So the rookies Carlos Gaitan and Nikoley Varbitzaliev should reach the results for GU-Racing. Gaitan was in a good case at place 12 when another driver sent Carlos into the wall. This means the out for the Colombian. Nikoley Varbitzaliev crossed the finish-line at place 10. But it was nothing with the first top 10 result of the Bulgarian. Varbitzaliev got a 30-second penalty for a collision and was just on 17 at the result-list. "I don't understand the penalty, maybe the race-direction saw another car but I didn't have any crash!" said Nikoley.

Better was the case for race 2. Hoing started from Five, Wissel from 9. Gaitan was 17 in the grid an Varbitzaliev on 19. Jens Hoing lost one place at the start, but he was able for the pace of the front-runners. Max Wissel was on 9 and also very fast but he was in traffic on the city-track. The places at the race-middle: Jens Hoing on place 6, Wissel on place 9, Carlos Gaitan on place 15 and Nikoley Varbitzaliev on place 16. After a collision Varbitzaliev lost some positions and he could only finish the race at place 19. Nevertheless Carlos Gaitan could hold his 15 place to the finish. But also Jens Hoing was not without mistakes. The German raced into the wall at the exit of the chicane and he damaged his Formula BMW. So Jens finished the race, but in case of attack the front-runners Jens lost a lot of time in the last laps. He finished only on place 9. Also his team-made Max Wissel was able to catch him shortly before the finish and Max finished on 8.

Teamprincipal Gunther Unterreitmeier: "The results are not perfect. Nevertheless I am happy because we found something what makes the cars faster and we were still at the music on the Norisring. Without accidents and crashes from Max and Jens podiums were possible here. Maybe the guys wanted to save this for the next race. The next Formula BMW weekend is with the Formula 1 at Nurburgring."
