Tambay dominates FBMW Europe season opener in Barcelona; takes maximum points

Adrien Tambay dominated the first two rounds of the new-for-2008 FBMW Europe series, as part of last weekend's Spanish F1 Grand Prix event. In his first race for the BMW Junior Team, driving for the all-conquering Eifelland Racing organisation, he delivered against pre-season expectation, qualifying fastest for each of the two races, before winning both convincingly.

Immediately fastest in Barcelona, the seventeen-year-old schoolboy from Le Cannet in the South of France, remained quickest throughout the course of the weekend, in a display that had the assembled F1 team bosses taking note. In the process, Tambay raced straight to the top of the series table, ahead of the next round in Zolder, Belgium.

Adrien Tambay was quick to state that his domination had not been as easy as it may have looked, and aware that over the course of a long season, he will not have things as easy every weekend. "Fantastic. It doesn't get any better. I won the last two races of last season, and the first two this year; long may that run continue. It was tough. I didn't really make any mistakes, but the competition is real, and it wasn't easy. The safety car (race two) obviously brought the pack together again, and anything can happen at that moment, but I just focused on my own race, and did the best I could. I must thank my team - they were great - as well as my father, my sponsors, and my management team, Gravity Sport Management. There's a long way to go in the series, but it's the perfect start, and the first time I've headed the series points. Who knows, by season's end, those two extra points (one extra point is awarded to the pole sitter in each race) may make a big difference.'

Having dominated pre-season of testing, Tambay travelled to Barcelona aware that he was many people's favourite for the series title, but equally clear in knowing that a lot of hard work, focus and application as well as a splash of luck stands between him and his goal for the year, with a total of sixteen rounds to contest.

Tambay now moves on to rounds three and four of the FBMW Europe championship the only races that do not form part of an F1 event at the Zolder Circuit, in Belgium, on the weekend of May 31st/June 1st.
