Round 5, Budapest: A ray of light for DAMS!

This weekend, DAMS raced in the fifth round of the 2009 Formula BMW Championship, part of the Hungarian F1 Grand Prix meeting, with its usual drivers Jim Pla, Javier Tarancon and Come Ledogar. Both races were run in ideal conditions with an air temperature of around 25C while on the track it was 40C.

Jim Pla, third on the grid for both races, scored a podium finish and a fourth place, while Come Ledogar also scored points increasing DAMS's tally in the teams' classification. Javier Tarancon was handicapped by a poor qualifying performance, but still managed to make it into the top 10 yesterday.

The sixth round of the championship will take place on the Valencia circuit between 21st -- 23rd August.

Eric Boullier, Team Manager: "When we left the Nuerburgring two weeks ago we were feeling pretty confident for the two rounds in Budapest. Indeed, we have boosted our performance there, that was predicting good results in Hungary, as we proved with a podium finish, which is a good start. In addition, we've brought in new working methods with our drivers, which seem to have paid off. What we've got to do now is to put our three cars at the top end of the grid, so that we can fight at the front on a regular basis."

Jim PLA
Race 1: 3rd on the grid, 3rd at the finish
Race 2: 3rd on the grid, 4th at the finish

"A good weekend during which I was among the front-runners from qualifying to the end of the second race. It's a pleasure to drive at this level after all the efforts made by the team. I'd like to thank my engineer and the mechanics for giving me such a competitive car. With a bit more effort we'll be on the topmost step of the podium!"

Come LEDOGAR
Race 1: 11th on the grid, 21st at the finish (penalty for jumping the start)
Race 2: 7th on the grid, 7th at the finish

"Things are getting better. But for a small mistake in qualifying, I could have started from nearer the front of the grid. In race one, I pushed very hard and I finished eighth, but I was disqualified for jumping the start. It was really frustrating. Race two was less hectic and I managed to score some points. This weekend's results are encouraging for the rest of the year."

Javier TARANCON
Race 1: 17th on the grid, 10th at the finish
Race 2: 16th on the grid, 12th at the finish

"I did not have a great qualifying session and that handicapped me for the rest of the weekend. In each of the two races I overtook a lot of cars despite the twisty track, which makes passing very tricky. My aim is to start from the top end of the grid. I know that I'm quick enough to fight at the front in the races."
