The Formula BMW Europe championship entered its second year of competition this weekend, with teams battling it out in Barcelona at the first race weekend of the season. Racing for Fisichella Motor Sport International was Romanian Doru Sechelariu, Spaniard Ramon Pineiro and Italian Kevin Gilardoni.

After Friday free practice, the 26 drivers went onto compete for race grid positions in the afternoon qualifying. The grid positions for race one were determined by each driver's quickest qualifying time, with their second quickest time taken to set the grid for race two.

Doru Sechelariu: Qualified in 17th position for race one by setting a lap of 1:52.389. Qualified 15th for race two with a time of 1:52.524. Doru had an excellent race one, crossing the line in ninth position, eight places up on his starting slot and collected eight points. In Sunday's race, Doru finished in 17th position.

Ramon Pineiro: Lined up 19th for race one after a qualifying lap of 1:52.471. Qualified 14th for race two with a lap time of 1:52.481. Enjoyed a strong race one, improving five places on his starting position to finish the race in 14th, collecting two points. He collected a further five points on Sunday after a fierce battle for 11th position, which he won to improve three places on his starting slot.

Kevin Gilardoni: Qualified in 20th for both races with his best qualifying times of 1:53.143 and 1:53.340. Kevin improved four places on his grid slot in both races on Saturday and Sunday, finishing each in 16th position, just outside of the points.

The next round of Formula BMW Europe will take place at Zandvoort in the Netherlands from 12-14 June.

Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "I am pleased with the collective team performance but there are definitely improvements we can make for the next race. We had a problem in qualifying -- we should have been much stronger -- so we will be working hard when we return from Barcelona to investigate everything. Zandvoort will be a tough race because none of the drivers know the circuit but we will continue to work hard and we do take away some positive things from this weekend."
