Four FRD drivers had a great weekend at the 56th Macau Grand Prix

Macau Grand Prix, only the biggest racing festival at the end of each season, came back to the renowned Macau Guia Circuit on 19th -22nd , November, 2009, entering its' 56th brilliant year. With a very strict driver selection system, the Macau GP's podium is no doubt one of the most desired racing honors in the world.

The 56th Macau GP gathered top drivers in the FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup, FIA World Touring Car Championship, Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, Macau GT Cup, CTM Macau Touring car race, Formula BMW Pacific, etc. FRD president Kenneth Ma, as well as Rainey He, Andy Yan, Martin Cao, three outstanding FRD drivers from China Touring Car Championship's Changan Ford Racing Team, also competed in the giant racing festival.

Rainey He and Andy Yan competed in the CTM Macau Touring Car race. Andy Yan came 3 rd in Friday's qualifying (2:44.305), although the laptime wasn't as good as what he did in practice. However, starting from the 2nd row still left him a good chance to grab the title. During Saturday's race, there were many accidents and unfortunately Yan retired from the race in its early stages. Rainey He started from the 11th row and with his typical consistency, managed to overtake many cars during the race, moving from 22nd to 7th. In lap 9, He's car experienced gear shift problems and he was hit by another car, ultimately retiring from the race.

Martin Cao competed in Formula BMW Pacific. The race attracted excellent young drivers from many different countries and regions, and Martin Cao was the only driver from Mainland China. Cao performed very well in practice and qualifying, but unfortunately, he also retired from the competition when a tire burst as he was trying to avoid running into a Petronas car that had stopped on track. 24 cars joined the event but only 8 cars finished, demonstrating that the young drivers need more experience on this track.

The Macau GT Cup featured a field of 36 drivers who regularly compete across the region and abroad. Kenneth Ma came to the event with his newly painted white Ferrari 430 and performed well, qualifying 13th and getting off to a good start. Ma managed to pass several cars to finish 10th. There were many accidents in the race and only 17 cars finished the scheduled 10 laps. Kenneth Ma indicated afterwards:"The Macau GP weekend is a big racing festival for race enthusiasts and I was very happy to be part of it. The Guia Circuit is a very demanding track and it's very important and helpful to get more experience at this circuit."
