Rookie Formula Car racer David Ostella is chalking up his second Formula BMW Americas race as a learning experience after a slip-up in qualifying and accident in the race led to a ninth last Sunday at Laguna Seca, California. The 16-year-old Canadian returned home after the first event weekend standing fifth in Rookie Cup points and ninth in the Overall Championship with six total points, but was still remembering what could have been.

"Sunday wasn't the greatest day ever," a dejected Ostella said Monday. "I qualified sixth, but I spun on my fastest lap which would have put me third or fourth." Still, the race began well for the second time in as many days. "I had an awesome start in the race and got up to fifth," he said. "I had Pelletier all over the back of me but he couldn't get by and we had a great battle. Then I got too close to fourth place and didn't notice that I was close enough to get an aero-push. I went too fast around a corner and spun, backing into the wall and breaking the rear wing. I got going again, but the race was effectively over for me."

David will now return to his karting roots as he visits the Cameron Motorsports Karting Complex this coming weekend where he will turn the wrenches for younger sister Vanessa in the second round of the Ontario Regional Karting Championship. After that it's back to Formula BMW Americas and races three and four supporting the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

"I am so excited about Montreal because it is with F1 and I just can't wait to see them on track," Ostella said in looking forward. "Racing on an F1 track is going to be incredible. And I learned so much last weekend about my driving and how to race the car that I just can't wait to return. It's not a go-kart, but the passing and the racing is very similar. When Montreal comes, I'll be ready."

The Formula BMW Americas Championship supports Canada's premiere racing event beginning June 6th at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. David will once again be racing with support from Global Precast Motorsports, Alpinestars and RAW Integrated Inc.
