Ostella heads to Lime Rock Park for a triple-header this weekend.
David Ostella heads to Lime Rock Park and a triple-shot of Formula BMW Americas races this weekend as the Championship contests races seven through nine in Lakeville, Connecticut. Racing in support of the American Lemans Northeast Grand Prix, Ostella and the rest of the FBMW racers will take to a freshly repaved Lime Rock Park, including a new configuration to the famed 1.53 mile track.
"I've never been there before but I've practised the old track on the simulator of course," Ostella said of his preparation for the next three races. "I'm really excited to have three races too. Of course it means more seat time in the race car, but I also need to be careful since there is no time between races if something were to happen."
Ostella will surely be hoping nothing is to 'happen' as he has endured a run of poor luck of late. In Montreal racing in support of the Canadian Grand Prix, he finished on the podium only to have his car mishandled en- route to technical inspection and the rear wing angle altered to illegal. At the latest round the Canadian teenager made a great move to reach fourth early on Sunday, only to have his engine cowling work loose and anchor him down the lengthy Mid-Ohio straightaway. A fall to seventh followed as he was left defenceless, yet the racer from Maple, Ontario, remains very level headed about his recent string and the season as a whole.
"I've had some bad luck but it's all a learning experience for me," he said in summarizing his rookie season in open-wheel racing. "I stay positive because inside I know what I've accomplished. I know in Montreal that I finished third and something happened after the race. And at Mid-Ohio I had a problem with the cowling, but it was okay because it gave me a lot of practise trying to defend my position and in knowing how to handle a racing situation." A veteran approach to be sure.
This weekend Ostella once again enters with eyes very much focussed on himself as well as the competition. "I just want to focus on my times in qualifying and in being consistent on the track," he said. "I also want to be quick right away, and not have to take a practice and two qualifying sessions to reach the lead times. I want to be fast right out of the box and progress from there!"
