NA: David Ostella Utah test summary

Canadian rookie formula car driver David Ostella now has two official tests under his belt as Formula BMW Americas drivers converged on the road course at Miller Motorsports Park last weekend in Tooele, Utah. Building upon the first official series' test when he was quickest rookie and third overall, Ostella led the field in the final session at Miller and set the second quickest time of the weekend in doing so.

"The weekend was phenomenal," the 16-year-old said upon his return to Canada Monday. "The first day I was only sixth fastest, but I was cautious learning the track which was very fast and flowing. When Sunday came I stepped it up and started to put in some fast laps. Then in the final session, with just seven minutes to go, I had new tires on and set my personal fast lap of the weekend."

Progression was certainly evident in the young Canadian, as from an opening Saturday session of 1:32.019 seconds, Ostella worked down to a lap of 1:29.627 seconds - a difference of well over two seconds. With each test the teenager from Maple, Ontario, is finding speed, and he says it is as much from what he does off the track as what he does on it. "Between tests its good to relax and look over data to see where you can improve next time out," he said. "Like for the next test, it's a new track for me and a new test track for the Series so it's very exciting. It gets harder and harder to wait for these tests - but it's also good that I can get some school work done!"

Formula BMW Official Testing resumes May 8th at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California. Just one week later race action hits the track as Formula BMW Americas will run as a support class at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the Grand-Am Rolex Sportscar Series.
