MERITUS.GP READY FOR SINGAPORE CHALLENGE

KUALA LUMPUR (SEPT 21, 2010): Malaysia's Meritus Grand Prix are confident of doing well in Marina Bay this weekend.

The seven-time Formula BMW champions, who are second in the team championships, know nothing else than a dominant performance in Singapore will give them hope of lifting the team crown for an eighth consecutive year.

Team owner-cum-manager Firhat Mokhzani, who left for the island republic todday said: "It has not been a great season by our usual standards but we are still in with a shout of winning the team title.

"As long as we have a fighting chance, our drivers will go all our to keep the crown which we have won since 2003.

"We have had some bad luck this season but that is part and parcel of racing. Nothing goes your way all the time but I'm confident the boys will be eager to deliver. All of them are excited about racing on the street circuit."

Featuring on the support card of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Formula BMW Pacific will have two 10-lap races round the 5.067km Marina Bay Circuit.

Meritus.GP have also recruited a guest driver from Russia - Andrew Khrapov - and he will join Malaysia's Mohd Afiq Ikhwan, Thailand's Pasin Lathouras and Colombia's Oscar Tunjo for rounds 11 and 12 of this season's 15-leg season.

After Singapore, the series travels to Japan to race in support of the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Okayama next month. The final challenge of the 2010 season will come at the 57th Macau Grand Prix in November on another of the world's most demanding street circuits.

Meritus.GP have collected 193 points after 10 races while leaders have Eurasia 242 points. Eurasia's Richard Bradley leads the drivers' championship, followed by E-Rain's Jordan Oon and Meritus.GP's Tunjo.

With a sister series in Europe, the Formula BMW concept is a proven winner. Among the 20 team drivers in this season's FIA Formula One World Championship, there are now seven Formula BMW graduates: Bruno Senna, Nico Hulkenberg, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Sebastian Vettel, Sebastien Buemi and Timo Glock. Formula BMW Pacific, although only established in 2003, has already seen its drivers progress to GP2, British and European Formula 3 and now, Formula 1.
